The Problem
This project required a design for an eight-page self-cover booklet that would contain information of an environmental issue chosen by the student that is of interest/concern for them. A diecut of some kind that expresses the theme of the booklet is also required to be placed on the front page. The front cover requires one photograph and a one-word headline that visually and dynamically expresses the issue, in addition to the name of the environmental issue. The inner pages must include two images, 200 words of body copy, one headline, and two subheads. The back cover is an author’s page that contains a current image of the student and a 3-4 paragraph for a biography.
The Solution
My environmental topic for this project was habitat destruction and I chose deteriorating for my single word because that is essentially what is happening as we continue to expand and grow in population. I chose a bird for my diecut because of the imagery that I chose for the front cover, making it look like the bird is flying over and what shows through is the road through the trees on the third page. I wanted to show as many examples of this destruction throughout the booklet but keep the colors and overall theme and look on the lighter side while giving the piece a sense of unity. This booklet was printed, cut to size, and folded in a Z-fold by me. InDesign was used for the entirety of this project.
